Toyota announced today it will put to an end to its Scion brand, a separate brand that it created back in 2003 for the U.S market.

Toyota said it will rebadge three current Scion 2017 model year vehicles as Toyotas, including FR-S, iA and iM, in August.  The tC will remain its Scion brand as it will go out of production in the same month.

Since its inception 12 years ago Scion has sold over 1 million vehicles (1,092,675 from 2003-2015), both and discontinued xB contributed to 75% of the sales with 418,235 and 392,632 units sold respectively.

Based on the sales history, Scion sales have trended down since its peak at 173,034 in 2006, and this might be the reason for ending the Scion brand, though Toyota said: “This isn’t a step backward for Scion; it’s a leap forward for Toyota.  Scion has allowed us to fast track ideas that would have been challenging to test through the Toyota network,”

See Press Release for more details and Sales History of all Scion vehicles.
