All-New Third-Generation 2016 Honda Pilot Unveiled in Chicago

Following releasing the teaser image last month, Honda today unveiled the all-new 2016 Pilot at the Chicago Auto Show.

To be available at the dealerships this summer, the 2016 Honda Pilot promises to deliver “more family-friendly utility, more advance technology and more premium attributes and amenities than ever before”.

Totally redesigned, the all-new 2016 Honda Pilot shows off an innovative, smooth look, yet keeping its authoritative and muscular presence.  The interior features premium soft-touch materials, LED map lights along with available high-end amenities such as a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats.  Higher-trim Pilot models unprecedentedly will have available two second-row captain’s chairs, providing for easy walk through between the second and third rows, in addition to the standard second-row three-person 60/40 split seat for 8-passenger seating capacity.

The next-generation Honda Pilot is about 300 lbs. lighter, yet it is longer than the outgoing model.  Thanks to a 3.5-inch-increase in vehicle length, the all-new 2016 Pilot has a larger cargo area that doesn’t affect the third-row seats capability.  As a matter of fact, third-row entry and exit is made even easier thanks to “an available one-touch walk-in second-row seat that slides and tilts to its forward-most position at the touch of a button.  As compared with the current Pilot, the width of the lower portion of the third-row entryway has been increased by 2.5 inches with 1-inch lower step-over height.”

Under the hood is the new 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC® V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™) cylinder deactivation technology 3.5-L that according to Honda, “delivers more refined, powerful and fuel-efficient performance than ever before”.  The engine is teamed with one of two new transmission — a Pilot-first 6-speed AT or on higher-trim, Honda-first 9-speed AT.

The all-new 2016 Honda Pilot will be available in FWD and AWD configurations.
