2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback: At A Glance (Press Release)

2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback: At A Glance

Based on the popular Lancer sedan, the 2012 Lancer Sportback is one of the most striking 5-door vehicles available in the marketplace today.

Available in two distinct models – the entry-level ES and the more richly equipped GT – the Lancer Sportback adds the convenience and versatility of a hatchback to Mitsubishi’s tried-and-true mid-sized Lancer sports sedan that has proved popular with both consumers and automotive media alike due to its structurally sound chassis, well-sorted sports suspension and pleasing exterior lines.

Equipped with a seamlessly-functioning and fuel-efficient continuously-variable transmission (CVT), the Lancer Sportback ES is powered by a normally-aspirated 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC 16-valve 4-cylinder that delivers an eager 148 horsepower. This well-designed CVT provides the motive force for Mitsubishi’s uniquely styled hatchback with quiet aplomb and little unwanted vibration.

Among the long list of standard features to be found on the Lancer Sportback ES are fuel-efficient Electric Power Steering (EPS); a 140-watt AM/FM/CD player audio system with digital signal processing, MP3 playback capability and 4 speakers; remote keyless entry; air conditioning with micron filter; anti-theft security alarm and engine immobilizer; and convenient illuminated controls for the audio system and cruise control located on the steering wheel.

New Lancer Sportback ES features added for the 2012 model year include rich new seating fabric, a handsome new 16-inch wheel cover design and an “ECO” light to help the driver maximize fuel economy. A Deluxe package available for 2012 adds an eye-catching chrome lower grille section plus an interior door trim upgrade.

Fuel mileage for the Lancer Sportback ES is an impressive EPA-rated 25 mpg city/32 mpg highway.

The Lancer Sportback GT (formerly the Lancer Sportback GTS) comes equipped with all of the amenities from the ES model but adds additional features including two additional speakers for the audio system (6 in all); sporty front bucket seats; sport-tuned suspension; leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift lever and parking brake handle; automatic climate control; a full-color LCD multi-information display; and Mitsubishi’s high-tech FUSE Handsfree Link System™ that allows users access to their music and to place hands-free calls by utilizing simple voice commands.

Welcome new additions for the 2012 model Lancer Sportback GT include the rally competition-inspired front fascia from the Lancer Ralliart sports sedan, a stylish new seat fabric design and a new-look 18-inch alloy wheel. Vehicles equipped with the Touring package now benefit from a rearview camera with a display screen inset into the rearview mirror, with cars equipped with the optional navigation system incorporating a rearview camera as well.

Under the hood of every Lancer Sportback GT is a powerful 168 horsepower 2.4-liter DOHC inline-4 that, like the Lancer Sportback ES model, is partnered with the continuously-variable transmission (CVT).

The 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback, with its extensive standard equipment package and ample rear cargo area easily accessed by the hatchback configuration, is an excellent new vehicle choice for growing young families or individuals/couples in search of a very capable, high-quality sports wagon.
