Nissan LEAF Sets World Record in Traveling in Reverse at GoodWood

Nissan LEAF - World Record Traveling in Reverse at Goodwood 2012

Nissan LEAF – World Record Traveling in Reverse at Goodwood 2012

Nissan Leaf EV has set a new world record in the reverse traveling at the “Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012”.  Stunt driver, Terry Grant who set a world record at last year’s festival by driving the Nissan Juke up the hill on two wheels, challenged the world record in the reverse traveling up the 1.6km (approx. 1 mile) hillclimb course in 1 minute 37 seconds at an average speed of 55mph.

This new world record is 26 seconds shorter than the first world record (2 mins 3 seconds) set also by Terry Grant on June 29.

“I had a great car at my disposal – with direct drive from the electric motor to its wheels, the Nissan LEAF can, in theory, go as fast backwards as it can forwards. There were times I wasn’t sure I was coming or going. However, thanks to the LEAF’s low center of gravity – the batteries are an integral part of the car’s floor – the car is extremely stable, no matter which direction it’s traveling. The only complaint I have is slight neck ache from constantly looking over my shoulder!”

– said Terry.
