Nissan today announced that it sold over 30,000 LEAF plug-in vehicles last year, making it the first car manufacturer to sell more than 30,000 plug-in vehicles in a single year.

30,200 is the exact number of LEAF vehicles that were sold in 2014 and also according to Nissan, there were 3,102 units sold in December alone, up 22.7% from the previous year.

Nissan made history when it delivered the 100% Electric LEAF 2011 model year.  In 2013, Nissan started to assemble the LEAF and its batteries in the U.S, and introduced the new lower priced entry-level LEAF.

Now in its fifth model year, Nissan says the LEAF is more popular than ever and it helps bring new consumers to Nissan.  With a high-response 80kW AC synchronous electric motor powered by the 24 kWh 192 cells Li-ion battery pack, the LEAF has MPGe (Miles per gallon gasoline equivalent) of 126 city/101 highway/114 combined mpg.  It can be fully charged in about 21 hours from 110V power source or fast charged up to 80% in 30 minutes.
