Nissan today released its latest safety advanced technologies which is based on the company’s “Safety Shield” concept to help reduce motor-vehicle-related deaths and injuries.

Available to Nissan and Infiniti brand vehicles, the latest Nissan safety technologies include the “Acceleration Suppression for Pedal Misapplication”, the “Multi-Sensing with Front and Rear Camera” and the “Predictive Forward Collision Warning System”.

Acceleration Suppression for Pedal Misapplication

This technology aims to detect the pedal misapplication earlier than the driver.  If the gas pedal is operated in a situation which the brake pedal should be used, the vehicle detects the error and engages the brake automatically.  The “Acceleration Suppression for Pedal Misapplication” technology allows the vehicle system to detect location information and situations in order to help make an accurate judgement .  This technology is based on Nissan’s distinct image processing technology used in the “Around View Monitor ” and the parking sonar systems.  The system detect s whether there are any obstacles in front or rear of the vehicle , and can also detect if the vehicle is near a parking slot.  If the system detects a parking slot , the acceleration is suppressed even if the gas pedal is excessively applied, and an audible alert and signal on the display help alert the driver.  The brakes will be engaged automatically if the vehicle continues to near obstacles such as walls to help avoid a collision.  This technology helps reduce the risk of accidents caused by pedal misapplication.

Multi-Sensing with Front Camera

This technology detects the risks ahead of the vehicle by the image processing technology.

For this system, a single camera takes on multiple roles in order to help avoid various risks which could occur ahead of and to the sides of the vehicle.  For example, “Forward Collision Warning” helps alert the driver when his vehicle is getting close to a vehicle ahead.  “Pedestrian Detection” helps alert the driver if a pedestrian is in the path of the vehicle.   Additionally, “Lane Departure Warning” helps alert the driver when the vehicle starts to drift out of the lane.

Multi-Sensing with Rear Camera

This technology  makes it possible to detect the risks behind the vehicle with its distinct image processing technology.

The “Multi-sensing system with rear camera” is an advanced application of Nissan’s innovative Around View Monitor’s image processing technology.  The single camera can detect multiple risks.  For example, the Blind Spot Warning helps alert the driver to a vehicle detected in the blind spot area.  The Lane Departure Warning provides a visual and audible warning when the vehicle starts to drift out of the lane.  The Moving Object Detection helps the driver to avoid a collision by providing visual and audible warnings if the system detects moving objects within the displayed image in situations such as pulling out of a parking space.  The system gives warnings with indication lamps and an audible warning when a potential risk is detected, thus helping the driver to feel more secure while focusing on the task of driving.

Predictive Forward Collision Warning System

The system supports the driver in making a judgment by giving information about the situation which is going on outside his typical field of view.  A sensor installed to the front of the vehicle can analyze the relative velocity and the distance to a vehicle directly ahead, as well as a vehicle traveling in front of the preceding one.  When the system detects potential risks, the system gives an alert to encourage the driver to decelerate in advance with a signal on the display, audible warning and also by tightening the seat belt.  These functions work to help prevent pileup collisions which may be caused by late brake application by the driver.  The technology perceives risks which lie beyond the ahead which are outside the driver’s field of view.
