Press Release : Mazda RX-8 SPIRIT R Coming to Japan in November 2011

Mazda has introduced a special edition of its four door, four-seat rotary engine to its 2012 RX-8 lineup, the Mazda RX-8 Spirit R, which will go on sale in late November in Japan and also mark the end of the Mazda RX-8.

The production of the Mazda RX-8 will end in June 2012 and the Spirit R will be the final special edition model.

The Mazda RX-8 Spirit R is based on the 6-speed manual transmission RX-8 Type RS and 6-speed automatic transmission RX-8 Type E.  It is named after the final limited edition Mazda RX-7. It features exclusive SPIRIT R badge, bucket seats design and 19 inch bronze alloy wheels (manual transmission) and 18 inch gun metallic alloy wheels (automatic transmission).

Mazda RX-8 production is ending but Mazda will continue its development and commitment on its rotary engine.
