At the 2016 NAIAS (North American International Auto Show), Lexus debuted the all-new 2017 LC 500, a luxury flagship coupe which “shares many key design elements, proportions and visual dynamism” of the LF-LC concept which was unveiled back in 2012.

Here are seven things you should know about this new Lexus’s top-of-the-line coupe.

  1. It definitely breaks the bank for most.  It’s reported that the starting price for the Lexus LC 500 will be close to $100,000 when it arrives at dealers sometime next year.
  2. It is powered by the 5.0-L V8 engine that also powers the RC F and GS F.  The engine is expected to produce 467 horsepower and 389 lb.-ft of torque.
  3. It features a newly developed 10-speed automatic transmission, the first ever in a luxury car.  The shift times of this 10-speed automatic transitions is compatible to those of a dual-clutch transmission.  In addition, the transmission is suited with a new electric control system with program that helps predict the driver’s inputs by monitoring acceleration, braking, etc.
  4. The all-new LC 500 is the first Lexus vehicle to use Lexus’ all-new, premium rear-wheel-drive luxury platform and is part of the new corporate global architecture for luxury vehicles (GA-L). The underpinnings of this new coupe will become the blueprint for the company’s future front-engine/rear-wheel-drive vehicles.  With this platform, the LC 500 has nearly all of the mass, including the engine and the occupants, placed in a position more centralized and lower in the chassis to increase the center of gravity.
  5. The Lexus LC 500 rides on run-flat tires, meaning it has no spare tire, and because of that the car gains some advantage in weight and packaging.  The car battery takes the space of the spare tire in the trunk, helping to redistribute weight.
  6. In terms of dimensions, the Lexus LC 500 measures 187.4 inches long, 75.6 inches wide and 53 inches tall.  It has a  113-inch wheelbase and can sit 4 people.
  7. Last but not least, the Lexus LC 500 is anticipated to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.

See press release for more details and specifications.
