Honda today unveiled the next-generation Civic Type R prototype at the 2016 Paris auto show, previewing what the 2018 Civic Type R will look like when the car will make its North American debut at the 2016 SEMA show in Las Vegas, marking the arrival of the first-ever Honda-badged Type R in the U.S.
As the most anticipated and sportiest car in the Civic lineup, the Civic Type R is based on the low and wide proportion of the recently introduced Civic Hatchback. From the prototype model, the car features a beefy body styling with some exterior modifications for better aerodynamic performance. At the front, the prototype is highlighted with a winged carbon fiber splitter, diamond-mesh inserts. The hood stands out with a new trapezoid air intake. From the sides, the car is outfitted with carbon filer side skirts. At the rear, the car features a prominent rear wing, and running below the wider fascia is a sturdy carbon fiber diffuser, which surrounds the three tailpipes, which has a smaller diameter central bight metallic red tailpipe.
The Civic Type R is also outfitted with model-exclusive vortex generators placed at the rear edges of the roof point. It rides on 20-inch piano black alloy wheels with red accents.
The 2018 Honda Civic Type R will, reportedly, go on sale in spring 2017.
