It seems that a 5 years cycle has passed faster for the Lexus RX as the all-new fourth-generation 2016 RX was unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show last week.

As the most popular model in Lexus vehicles lineup with more than 2.1 million units sold worldwide (there is about 1 RX for every three Lexus vehicles sold), the fourth-generation Lexus RX rolls into 2016 offering a new bolder look, a more powerful and efficient engine, and safety technologies.

On the outside, the most distinctive feature about the new RX is the Lexus-first “floating roof” design, credited to the C-pillars being blacked-out to give the illusion of a floating roofline.  Another unique feature is the car’s rear, highlighted by L-shaped LED taillights that enfold the sides of the vehicle, making a wider, more commanding presence when illuminated.

Riding on standard 18-inch with newly available 20-inch wheels for upgrade, the new 2016 Lexus RX, except for the hybrid model, is outfitted with dual exhaust pipes for sportier and more premium look.

Like the outgoing generation, the fourth-generation Lexus RX lineup consists of the RX 350 gas model and the RX 450h hybrid model.  Under the hood of the gas model is an improved more powerful 3.5-L V6 engine, which connects to the new 8-speed AT to produce 300 horsepower.

So if you want to buy a 300-horsepower vehicle, you have to opt in for the gas model? Not true anymore.  The combination of the new improved RX 450h’s Atkinson-cyl 3.5-L V6 engine and the electric motor generator also yield the output of about 300 horsepower.

Safety-wise, in addition to having a body structure that has been reinforced with further stiffness, which provides better handling response and quieter cabin, the 2016 Lexus RX is equipped with the “Safety System+”, which combines numerous Lexus’ existing active safety technologies to assist the drivers avoid or lessen chances of collisions.

The 2016 Lexus RX lineup, just like the predecessor, also include the F SPORT model for those who want even more exhilaration and performance.  Besides the F SPORT badge and some differences in appearance, the 2016 RX F SPORT model rides on F-SPORT-exclusive 20-inch graphite-finished alloy wheels, and features F SPORT instrument cluster and a sport steering wheel on the inside.

See “Press Release” for more details and preliminary specs.
