Mazda has promised to so many great things from its all-new MX-5, and now today it announced another item for its fans to look forward to when the new MX-5 will go on sale this summer – the new Bose audio sound system.

The new Bose sound system includes newly engineered speakers and proprietary technologies, which is optimized for driving with the top down and bringing better audio performance.

“So we wanted to make the sound system for the new MX-5 better than it’s ever been. We improved audio quality, and for open-air driving, the experience is thrilling.  You’ll feel and hear the difference the first time you listen.”

– said Marc Mansell, vice president, Bose Automotive Systems Division.

The new Bose for the MX-5 comes with two separate equalization settings, one for top-down and one for top-up driving. In addition, with Bose AudioPilot® 2 noise compensation technology, the sound is automatically tuned basing on roof position, wind noise and road noise.

The system also includes Bose® UltraNearfield™ speakers installed in the driver and passenger seat headrests.  These speakers were developed specifically for headrest placement and performance.  Thanks to Bose TrueSpace digital signal processing technology, the driver and passenger can experience a wide sound stage even though the speakers are placed just inches away from their ears.

A pair of 6.5-inch speakers are placed in each door for full-range sound, and 1-inch neodymium tweeters are located in each A-pillar for enhanced high-frequency clarity.  Powerful bass is delivered by a 5.25-inch woofer housed in a 6-liter custom enclosure designed to fit under the front passenger footwell without taking up valuable cabin space.  All the speakers are powered by a 7-channel digital Bose amplifier mounted below the MX-5’s convertible-top storage space.
