The all-new 2015 Subaru Outback made its debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, starting its fifth generation with many improvements over the previous model.

According to Subaru, the 2015 Outback features the most spacious interior and offers the most fuel efficiency in the model’s 20-years history.

With the wheelbase increase of just 0.2 inch, total length increase of 0.5 inch and width of 0.7 inch, the 2015 fifth-generation Outback retains virtually the same footprint as the outgoing model, but it offers a more spacious passenger cabin of 108.1 cu. ft., 2.6 cu. ft. roomier than the previous model. The cargo zone behind the rear seats has been expanded to 35.5 cu. ft., 1.2 cu. ft. larger than that of the previous model.

Even though offering a roomier cabin, the 2015 Outback is quieter thanks to the application of a new acoustic windshield, liquid-filled engine mounts, thicker panels in crucial locations, and increased use of foam insulation as well as floor damping material.

Under the hood of the 2015 Outback 2.5i is an enhanced version of the 2.5-L 4-cylinder BOXER engine that was introduced in 2013. Lighter and more efficient, the 2.5-L BOXER engine gains 2 more horsepower to 175 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of peak torque.  The 2015 Outback 3.6R Limited is powered by the 3.6-L V6 BOXER engine which produces 256 horsepower and 247 lb.-ft. of peak torque.

Both engines are mated with now standard Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). When equipped with the 4-cylynder engine, the 2015 Outback 2.5i has an estimated fuel economy rating of 25/33/28 city/highway/combined mpg.  The V6 engine-powered Outback, thanks to the new Lineartronic CVT, yields 20 city/27 highway/22 combined mpg, a noticeable improvement from 17/25/20 for the outing going model.

The 2015 Subaru Outback will be available this summer. See “Press Release” for detailed overview.
