Announced earlier last month, the Acura TLX prototype finally was unveiled at the 2014 NAIAS in Detroit, previewing the performance and design of the all-new Acura TLX which will be launched in the middle of this year.

There will be two different engines available, a 2.4-L 4-Cyl engine mating with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission and a 3.5-L V-6 engine teaming with a 9-speed transmission.  Acura says the TLX is expected to deliver best-in-class (midsize luxury sedan) in fuel economy.

Both engines will be available on the FWD models, while the Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) models will only be available with the 3.5-L engine.

Available on all models will be an Integrated Dynamics System which allows the driver to choose different driving modes – ECON (Economy), Normal, Sport and Sport+.  Each selected mode will change Electric Power Steering, throttle response, SH-AWD and P-AWS control logic, transmission shift mapping, HVAC control and Active Noise Control settings in accordance with the driver’s preferences.

Projected to offer the most spacious interior in its class, the 2015 Acura TLX however has a more compact exterior footprint.  It measures 190.2 inches in length, 3.8 inches shorter than the Acura TL, still rides on the same 109.3-inch wheelbase.

The 2015 Acura TLX will be built in the U.S. at the auto plant where the current TL is built.  With the launch of the TLX this year, Acura will discontinue sales of the TSX model.
