Mazda Announced Mazda6 and Mazda6 Race Car with Diesel Engine

Mazda announced at the 2012 Los Angelse Auto Show that its 2014 Mazda6, for the first time in the U.S, will also be available with a diesel engine. So for 2014, theMazda6 will be available with a choice between the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-L gasoline engine or the SKYACTIV-D 2.2-L Diesel engine.
The 2.5-L gas engine is rated at 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. The 2.2-L diesel engine’s performance data is not yet available. (the European diesel engines are rated at 148 horsepower and 280 lb-ft as well as 173 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque)
The 2014 Mazda6 with the gasoline engine will go on sale first in January 2013 and the diesel engine equipped Mazda6 will go on sale in the second half of 2013.
In related news, Mazda also announced that it will participate in the GRAND-AM GX in the Rolex 24 endurance race at Daytona Beach, FL in January with the 2014 Mazda6 race car that will be powered by the SKYACTIV-D Diesel engine. The 2014 Mazda6 race car will be the first diesel race car to ever run in the Rolex 24.
