Press Release : 2013 Scion FR-S Overview

The 2013 Scion FR-S enters its first year with seven available colors including Raven, Asphalt, Hot Lava, Argento, Ultramarine, Firestorm and Whiteout.

The FR-S, which stands for Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport, was built on the inspiration of the AE86 generation of the Corolla (better known as the Hachi-Roku, meaning “8-6” in Japanese).  The AE86 was a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive coupe that was lightweight and well balanced, making it a solid choice for driving enthusiasts.

The 2013 Scion FR-S is a joint product between Toyota and Subaru.  It is powered by Subaru’s newly developed horizontally opposed 2.0-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine and Toyota’s D-4S injection system, which is adopted from the Lexus IS F.  Together, the engine generates 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 6,600 rpm.  The 2013 FR-S has estimated city/highway/combined fuel economy ratings of 25/34/28 mpg when paired with the automatic transmission, and 22/30/25 mpg with the manual transmission.

The Scion FR-S has a lightweight design and compact size.  By utilizing an aluminum hood, a solid roof, and by featuring a trunk design instead of a hatchback, the Scion FR-S weighs in at an impressive 2,758 lbs when equipped with a manual transmission and 2,806 lbs when equipped with an automatic.

Equipped with dynamically tuned suspension setup, which consists of MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone system in the rear, the 2013 Scion FR-S runs on 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45R17 tires along with ventilated disc brakes.

When equipped with a 6-Speed manual transmission, the 2013 Scion FR-S has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $24,200, and when equipped a 6-Speed automatic transmission, its starting MSRP is $25,300.
