Introduced in 2008, the Lexus LS 600h L was the first hybrid luxurious car.  It also was the first car to combine a V8 gasoline engine with a hybrid drivetrain.

For 2012, the Lexus LS 600h L hybrid is virtually unchanged from the 2011 MY with the exception of the color replacement, Smokey Granite Mica is replaced by Nebula Gray Pearl exteriorly.

Interior, genuine semi-aniline, soft, rich appearance leather along with stitching is seen throughout the cabin and extends beyond the seats, onto the instrument panel, upper front door and door armrests.

Performance wise, the 2012 Lexus LS 600h L is equipped with large ventilated disc brakes and 19” seven-spoke aluminum alloy wheels.  Multi-link front and rear air-suspension systems help maintain superb vehicle posture and driving performance while maintaining the ultra-comfortable ride.

The 2012 Lexus LS 600h L offers drivers a smooth and responsive ride thank to Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS).  EPS delivers a smooth steering feel and reduces parasitic losses. Whereas, Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) optimizes the steering gear ratio according to vehicle speed, enhancing responsiveness and driver control.  In addition, Networked with the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, VGRS can make minor adjustments to the front-wheel angle to help provide control in challenging road conditions.

The 2012 Lexus LS 600h L hybrid powertrain system combines a 5.0-liter V8 gasoline engine with two powerful electric motors and a large-capacity battery pack.  It generates a peak combined output rating of 438 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in just 5.5 seconds and 50-70 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

When the vehicle is coasting or when the brakes are applied, the Lexus LS 600h L’s electric motors also function as generators which capturing lost kinetic energy (as heat) and transform it into electricity to charge the batteries and therefore even boosts efficiency further.

The Lexus LS 600h L is equipped with a full-time all-wheel drive system that adapts to road surface conditions to help provide vehicle control during acceleration, and cornering.

There are three driving modes driver can select (“Hybrid” (Normal), “Power”, “Snow”).  The Hybrid mode provides the smoothest ride and is ideal for driving in city or suburb; Power mode sharpens accelerator pedal response and Snow mode softens accelerator pedal response which makes it easier to accelerate on slippery road.

As for safety and security, 2012 Lexus LS 600h L is equipped with eight airbags, with a maximum of 11 airbags available through option packages.

One of the coolest safety features that the 2012 Lexus LS 600h L is equipped with is the Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS) system which uses two small cameras mounted at the front of the car to detect certain nonmetallic objects in the vehicle’s path.  As part of APCS, the Lexus LS 600h L also offers the Driver Attention Monitor System, which uses a third camera, mounted on the steering column, it monitors the orientation of the driver’s face.  If the camera detects that it appears the driver is not looking ahead for a few seconds or more, and if an obstacle is detected ahead, then it alerts the driver.  APCS can begin to gently apply the brakes on its own as the car gets closer to the obstacle.  To help assist the driver in maneuvering around the obstacle, the system reprograms the steering ratio, amplifying the intensity and quickness of the steering response.  At the same time, APCS automatically retracts the front seatbelts and prepares the brake system to respond with full force when activated by the driver in anticipation of a possible impact.

As for comfort and convenience, The 2012 Lexus LS 600h L is nearly five inches more legroom than the standard LS 460 model. Standard features include a hard disk drive (HDD) Lexus Navigation system with a back-up camera, Bluetooth® phonebook download capability, Voice Command casual language voice-recognition system, and an integrated XM Radio receiver.

The Lexus LS 600h L features a standard 19-speaker 450-watt Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound audio system.  An auxiliary jack and USB port are also available for for MP3 digital music players or iPod® connectivity. The audio system also features Bluetooth streaming audio.
