2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback At A Glance

PDF File (109.92 KB): 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Specs

For the 2011 model year, Mitsubishi has introduced an exciting, lower-cost new model to the Lancer Sportback lineup.

With the debut of the all-new Lancer Sportback ES – the most affordable version of this sporty 5-door version of the popular Lancer sedan to date – Mitsubishi will make this stylish sports wagon even more accessible to young families in need of the versatility of a 5-door vehicle but also enjoy the exhilaration of driving a very capable, high-quality sports sedan. And while the new Lancer Sportback ES doesn’t scrimp on amenities, Mitsubishi was able to lower the vehicle’s price point by replacing the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine found in the Lancer Sportback GTS model with a smaller displacement but still quite capable 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine that produces 148 horsepower (down 20 bhp from the Sportback GTS model’s engine).

The new Lancer Sportback ES also receives Mitsubishi’s fuel-saving electric power steering at no additional cost to the consumer. A 5-speed manual or a continuously-variable transmission (CVT) will be available with this new ES model.

Other models in the Lancer Sportback family include the sporty front-wheel-drive GTS version and the high-performance, turbocharged all-wheel drive Ralliart edition.

The mid-grade Lancer Sportback GTS features a normally-aspirated DOHC 2.4-liter inline 4 engine that makes use of Mitsubishi’s MIVEC variable valve timing technology and is available with either a 5-speed manual or continuously-variable transmission (CVT) with INVEC-III and steering column-mounted magnesium shifter paddles. This capable powerplant produces 168 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 167 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,100 rpm. Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control Logic (TCL) and 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) are standard equipment.

Among the long list of standard features included on the Lancer Sportback GTS are a 140-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with digital signal processing, MP3 playback capability, USB port and 6 speakers; dual-stage front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with front passenger occupant sensors, curtain side air bags, driver’s knee air bag and front seat-mounted side-impact air bags; anti-theft engine immobilizer and security alarm and a rear spoiler. Now standard on the 2011 GTS model is Mitsubishi’s FUSE HandsFree Link System™ that takes the convenience of automated voice control and combines it with Bluetooth®, to control your phone and music player. With FUSE you can access your music, stream music, and place hands-free calls with the sound of your voice.

The top-flight Lancer Sportback Ralliart is, essentially, a slightly detuned 5-door version of the legendary Lancer Evolution high-performance sports sedan.

While the Ralliart’s engine block is identical to that found in the engine used in the Lancer Evolution, the MIVEC valve timing system, turbocharger and intercooler has been revamped. The Lancer Sportback Ralliart’s 2.0-liter inline 4 engine produces 237 hp at 6,000 rpm and 253 lb.-ft. of torque at a much lower 3,000 rpm.

Like the Evo, the Ralliart is equipped with Mitsubishi’s lightning-fast-shifting 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST) that includes magnesium steering column-mounted shifter paddles.

The All-Wheel Control (AWC) full-time active all-wheel drive system that includes a computer-controlled active center differential (ACD) and allows the driver to select between Tarmac/Gravel/Snow settings, along with the helical limited-slip front differential and a mechanical limited-slip rear differential help to route power to each wheel for maximum road-gripping traction.

Low-profile 215/45R18 Yokohama ADVAN summer tires, a specially-tuned suspension system and a rigid chassis further aid the Ralliart in the handling department.

Standard features on the Lancer Sportback Ralliart include a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with audio system and cruise control switch gear; leather-wrapped shift knob; FAST-key hands-free entry system; automatic climate control; aluminum hood with heat extractor vents; dual exhaust outlets and aluminum pedals and footrest and, new for the 2011 model year, the FUSE HandsFree Link System™.
