Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Regarding Passenger Airbag Recall: 2010 Accord Crosstour
TORRANCE, Calif. -09/14/2010 – Honda will recall 3,336 2010 model year Accord Crosstour vehicles in the U.S. to inspect and potentially replace the front passenger airbag. Recent testing revealed that certain front passenger airbag modules installed in a limited number of 2010 Accord Crosstours do not meet one aspect of a U.S. federal regulation (FMVSS 208) that requires airbag deployment to be tested using an unbelted six year-old child-sized test dummy in the front seating area. No incidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue. (In many states, six year old children are not allowed to ride in a vehicle’s front seat, and Honda specifically recommends that children age 12 and under ride properly restrained in a vehicle’s back seat.)
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their Accord Crosstour to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda so their front passenger airbag can be inspected and, if necessary, replaced. Notification to customers will begin on September 22, 2010.
