Toyota announced it will carry out a voluntary recall involving certain 2001-2004 Tacoma model year, which were initially sold or presently registered in 20 cold climate states and the District of Columbia.

The rusty “tire carrier lift plate” due to extended to high road salt use and other environmental reasons may possibly cause the plate to break and consequently cause disconnection of the spare tire from the car.

Affected Tacoma owners will receive a notification letter in December 2012.
